2013

The 2013 Season takes Dale Quarterley back to the road racing he loves... Brainerd International Raceway, Infinion Raceway, Virginia International Raceway and Road Atlanta are all on his race schedule this year. Of course you can still see him again at New Hampshire and Dover; exciting as always; but add to that an additional ARCA race in Chicago all thanks to his sponsors Van Dyke Baler, Ti-Tech, Lubo, and Bollegraf. In the shop you can see him and his son, Alex Quaterley, who will come work during his summer break from college, hard at work completeing the fleet of circle track and road race cars for his own racing, but also enhancing his vintage race team cars to enable thier owners to go out and set several track records this season. On an off weekend you may also get to catch a glimps of him flat tracking it at Woodleaf Raceway or trying out the new Mooresville GoPro Motorplex in his go-kart.

Before the season starts....A little fun!.....Dale Quarterley started the year off celebrating his 52nd birthday, then shared a special birthday celebration with his son Aiden. And to stay in shape Quarterley International was formed for a little dirt biking fun.

...Brainerd

It was an overcast day filled with a few challenges and no qualifying attempt. But when the race started Quarterley, in his #32 Van Dyk Baler Ford, took control of the 2.5 mile track with it's 13 turns. Starting the race 11th; going a lap down; getting the lucky dog and having to chase the pack down; he came away with a 6th place finish. While it's the first time Quarterley had raced at Brainerd, he stated "It always feels great to be back on a road course; the feel is nothing you get on a circle track."

Déjà vu?

Think you are looking at an old photo of Dale Quarterley?Take a closer look...that's his son Alex Quarterley sporting dad's old Vanson leathers. Taking a moment from the race scene Quarterley and his son spent a fun day at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC. Dad shares a few secrets from the past, while Alex shows his dad just how's it's done today. A special thank you to Carolina Motorsports Adventures for providing the motorcycles for such an exciting day.

Testing at Virginia International Raceway

A racer is always looking for just the right set-up.  Testing at VIR early in the season allows Quarterley to try out some different things before race day.  Check him out on August 24th, 2013; he'll not only be bringing his car, but also Robert Mitten, the 2012 V8 SBO Stock Car Racing Series Champion, for his debut appearance in the K&N Series East Series.

Sunshine at Sonoma

Frustrating end to a beautiful morning in Sonoma, CA at Sonoma Raceway.  After qualifying 16th on the 1.99 mile, 12 turn track; Quarterley ended the day in the hauler after an accident on lap 50. Of course always looking for the positive Quarterley states, "We always want to put the car upfront especially for our sponsor Van Dyk Baler, but Sonoma ended up being a great learning tool for our entire team.  We found we had a couple different weaknesses, particularly in the chasis and shock package, but the race itself flowed as we continued to gain position during the race; we definately had at least a 6th place car. We are looking forward to taking the new information to VIR.

Check out Dale Quarterley in an interview by CBS Sports News for the Geico Motorcycle AMA Pro Pre-Race Show.  Reliving the moment, "August 8, 1993, was the most vivid day of my life, I remember it like it was yesterday" Quarterley states in the video. As he remembers that feeling of his 1st ever AMA Superbike win, you can hear the emotion in his voice, "To see my father's face, my wife's face....when I got off and had to walk over to victory circle...a 200 people standing ovation.... that was great...It was good to get the feedback from your fellow competitors."

(Just want to see Quarterley move to time marker 18:32)

"It's a shame he is no longer with us, but I am honored to have known him and have him featured here on our website."  - Dale Quarterley

Virginia International Raceway......

Robert Mitten....Finishes 14th in his debut race of the K&N Racing Series at VIR.

Robert Mitten, also known as the Mitten Missle, a rookie to the K&N series, but no stranger to road racing takes the #23, 1/4LEY Racing Ford from his qualifying position of 22nd up to 11th then finishes the 55 lap road race in 14th place.

Testing at VIR.....

Just coming off a frustrating race weekend at VIR; Dale Quarterley took the car right back to the track to test.  With springs, shocks, swaybars, and lots of perserverance he feels he has a much better handle on the car.  Quarterley states "the handling issues at the track on race day were frustrating; fortunately with a few adjustments during testing, we have a car we can do something with now."

Dale Quarterley.....Road race veteran stuggles with handling issues at VIR.

"What a frustrating day....we just had handling issues the whole time."  After qualifying 21st then having to start at the rear; Quarterley pulled his Van Dyk Baler and Industrial Transfer Chevrolet behind the wall on lap 4 to see if he could change the course of the day.  Back on the 2.25 mile North Course of VIR, Quarterley takes his mishandling car up to 14th position, but despite the efforts pulls his car off the track at lap 33.  "No reason to take home a wrecked race car; I just don't have the time during the race to make the changes necessary to make the car do what I want it to do, so we'll take it home in one piece and  test next week."

Preparing for Dover....

Final touches and last minute preparations are being completed on the Vandyk, Bollegraf, Insutrial Transfer & Storage #32 Chevrolet. Dale is excited and looking forward to seeing his sponsors, their families and employees this year at The Monster Mile in Dover.  Quarterley states, "Dover is one of my favorite tracks; it's always an exciting show." A special thanks our sponsors Van Dyk Baler, Bollagraf, LUBO and Industrial Transfer & Storage, Inc.

The Monster Mile......Dover 2013...

The Monster Mile lived up to it's name this weekend: Practice was productive,  qualifying presented a moment of challenge, and Quarterley was unable to finish the race after a blown right front tire. Quarterley reports there were some issues right out of the hauler, but each change made during practice was a move in the right direction.  During qualifying the engine was only running on 7 cylinders, but Quarterley made it work for him getting the car in the show.  Quarterley started 25th and moved up quickly to 19th, after a pit stop his car was running times competitive with the top 5 cars.  Unfortunaely at lap 57 the right front tire blew sending him and the car into the fence.  A special thank you to the sponsors, their employees, supporters and their families. Still to come... Road Atlanta...
